On the other hand, there were other groups of people who travelled from the West across the sea to Tanah Melayu. These group of people are the Malay Polynesians. Most of them lived along the coast and were very skillful in seafaring activities.

ARRIVAL OF MALAYS

Basically, the Malay race in Malaysia today originates from various countries through their respective routes. The Proto Malays group originally travelled from Yunnan province in China, which then migrated to the Champa civilizations (100AD - 1500AD, consists of South Vietnam and Cambodia). Migration to the Great Angkor Wat occured after the death of the last King of Champa. The population expanded southwards and finally settled down in Tanah Melayu, which is now known as Malaysia.

Sri Vijaya is the second civilization after Champa, which located in Palembang (South Sumatera). Sri Vijaya then fell after being defeated by Majapahit. Parameswara, the prince of Palembang migrated to Malacca and started a new empire.

"Bahasa Melayu" (Malay language) is the main language for Malays. It is also the official language of Malaysia and is now known as "Bahasa Malaysia".

The Malay language has been widely used since the time during the Sultanate of Malacca, mainly for business purposes. Therefore, it was known as "Lingua Franca" at that time.

"Bahasa Malaysia" is easy to learn and understand. The beauty part of this language is it plays an essential role in uniting the plural societies in Malaysia, bringing peace and harmony to the country.
